CTB1 Supernova Remnant/Resto di Supernova

Questa ripresa é una sorta di pietra miliare per me in quanto non avevo mai ripreso un oggetto con un tempo d’integrazione cosí lungo (circa 11 ore). Inoltre é anche la mia prima ripresa con l’utilizzo del filtro OIII (Ossigeno due volte ionizzato) e questo ha comportato qualche problema di mescolamento della banda OIII nei canali RGB. Alla fine, parlando con Fabiomassimo, mi sono convinto ad immettere la totalitá del segnale in OIII al 100% nel canale blu.
Come potete notare la nebulosa é intrinsecamente molto debole e l’apporto di OIII, visibile nella zona sinistra dell’anello della nebulosa, é molto ridotto. La ripresa é inoltre complicata dal fatto che quest’oggetto si trova praticamente sull’equatore galattico, zona molto ricca di stelle che complicano l’esaltazione dei particolari della nebulosa sul fondo del campo.

This shot is a kind of milestone for me because I had never taken an object with an integration time so long (about 11 hours). Furthermore it is also my first shot using the OIII filter (twice ionized oxygen) and this has led to some problems of mixing RGB channels in the band OIII. Eventually, also talking to Fabiomassimo, I convinced myself to insert the OIII band 100% in the blue channel.
As you can see the nebula is intrinsically very weak and the contribution of OIII, visible in the left ring of the nebula, is very small. The processing was further complicated by the fact that this object is located almost on the galactic equator, a region very rich in stars that complicate the highlight of the details of the nebula from the background.

M106

Ho recentemente inserito una ripresa della galassia M106. E’ forse la prima ripresa che ritengo accettabile con il VISAC a piena focale per cui l’ho inserita in galleria. La ripresa non è comunque scevra da problemi: l’autoguida non era il massimo come pure la collimazione, ed il seeing scarso ha fatto il resto. E’ stata comunque un buon banco di prova in quanto ho provato ad utilizzare la deconvoluzione per il trattamento della ripresa, con buoni risultati.

I recently inserted an image of the galaxy M106. It is maybe the first image with the VISAC at full focal length, therefore I inserted in the gallery. The image came out with some issues: autoguide issues, collimation issues, and bad seeing. It’s processing however was a good proof of concept of usage of deconvolution, with a fair overall improvement of the image itself.

Vagabondando nella Volpetta / Wandering in Vulpecula

Vi propongo questo LRGB di una zona della Volpetta non molto fotografata (pochi i riferimenti e le immagini sul web a proposito di questa zona). Il “soggetto” principale sono il complesso a riflessione VdB 126, ma essendo di ridotte dimensioni sembra quasi affogare nel mare delle nebulose oscure che lo circondano. In ogni caso ritengo questo campo di un certo effetto proprio per i contrasto cromatico tra la regione a riflessione e le tinte giallo rossastre delle stelle di campo (poche stelle dei tipi spettrali più energetici). Inoltre in alto a sx si può distinguere il giovane ammasso aperto NGC 6793.

Let me share with you this LRGB image of a not much photographed area in Vulpecula (a few references and images on the web about this area). The “main target” is the main complex reflection VdB 126, but being small it seems almost drowning in a sea of dark nebulae that surround it. In any case I think this field is quite attractive because of the color contrast between the reflection nebulas and the red/yellow starfield. Also, in the top left, you can distinguish the apparently young open cluster NGC 6793.
Comments and criticism to improve my processing technique is more than welcome as usual.

Notte del 20 agosto

Ieri sera,stanco del viaggio, non sono riuscito a concentrarmi molto sul da farsi, mi sono limitato a montare l’attrezzatura bilanciare e mettere in stazione. Ho poi effettuato una prima collimazione ed una messa a fuoco, ma per qualche motivo focusmax non è riuscito a trovare il punto di fuoco. Stasera ci riprovo, sperando di essere un pò più attivo ed efficiente.

Stasera partirò per stare due settimane in Sicilia. Ho già trascorso una settimana nello stesso posto a fine Luglio, ma il meteo è stato certamente deludente: solo due notti serene su sette, in un periodo dove normalmente la percentuale è generalmente del 100%. In due notti sono riuscito a riprendere un paio di oggetti: la nebulosa ad emissione M16 (HRGB) e le nubi a riflessione immerse in una nebulosa oscura con numero di catalogo VdB126, nella costellazione della Vulpecula (LRGB). Ho abvuto sfortunatamente un problema, facilmente risolvibile, sui flat di luminanza, per cui prima di poter elaborare la seconda ripresa dovrò rifare i flat frame per il canale L; nessun problema per M16 che ad una prima elaborazione risulta essere con molto segnale.
Ora avrò a disposizione 2 settimane, e spero che il meteo sia più clemente del mese scorso, anche perchè ho da eseguire la messa a punto del VISAC con il suo riduttore di focale (non era alla distanza giusta dal sensore) e voglio provare a configurare in maniera leggermente diversa il setup per migliorare la guida in declinazione. Dopodichè potrò dedicarmi, se il meteo mi favorirà, a fare riprese. Da ottimista che sono ho già steso una scaletta di oggetti da riprendere, ma volendo essere scaramantico preferisco non anticiparvi niente.

Tonight I’ll be off for two weeks in Sicily. I have already spent a week in the same place at the end of July, but the weather has certainly been disappointing: only two clear nights a week, usually in a period where the rate is generally 100%. In two nights I could take a couple of objects: the emission nebula M16 (HRGB), and a couple of reflection nebulas surrounded by dust clouds dubbed VdB126, in the constellation Vulpecula (LRGB). I had unfortunately a problem, to be still solved. The flat field of luminance came out bad therefore before I can process the second image I will have to redo the flat frame to the L channel; no problem for M16, as a first draft came out with a lot of signal.
Now I will have 2 weeks, and I hope the weather is more forgiving wrt last month, also because I have to fine tune the VISAC with its focal reducer (it was not the right distance from the sensor) and I want to try to configure the setup in a slightly different way to improve the autoguide in declination. After that I will dedicate myself, if the weather is fine, to take image. As an optimistic individual I have already drafted a list of objects to shoot, but to be superstitious I prefer not to anticipate anything.

Rieccomi con una nuova immagine, elaborata in meno di 72 ore dalla sua ripresa!
Dopo alcuni problemi di messa a fuoco della QSI col riduttore di focale del VISAC, sono riuscito finalmente a venire a capo della situazione e devo dire che questa accoppiata VISAC+QSI mi sta cominciando a dare molte soddisfazioni.
Sul sito come sempre troverete la versione ad alta risoluzione unitamente ai dati di ripresa.

Here I am again with a new image, processed in less then 72 hours from the shooting session!
After some issues with getting into focus with the QSI and the VISAC focal reducer, I sorted it out at last, and I have to say that this setup is starting to give me much satisfaction.
On the website you’ll find as usual the highres image together with technical data regarding the imaging session.
